Healthy Workplace Committee

McMaster University’s Healthy Workplace Committee was developed in 2002 and is comprised of employee volunteers from various areas within the University. Our shared goal is to improve the health and well-being of employees through education, awareness and participation through health and wellness events offered to employees throughout the year.

McMaster has long had a very strong commitment to creating not only a brighter world, but a healthier world as well. In 2017, McMaster joined the Canadian Health Promoting Universities and Colleges Network by signing the Okanagan Charter, which is dedicated to advancing human and societal well being. McMaster’s Healthy Workplace programs strive to advance the well being of all faculty and staff through the promotion of year round holistic wellness programming, including, but not limited to, physical health, psychological wellness, and work-life balance.

1. Food as Prevention for Cancer

We have all been touched by cancer.  “The Big C” looms large when we think of our friends, our family, and ourselves. 

Luckily, some of our best means of preventing cancer are as close as our own kitchens.  Join Dr. Subhas Ganguli, McMaster Gastroenterologist and creator of, as he leads us through practical ways we can use food to foster health and prevent cancer.

2. Holiday Stress Management

The holidays, for many, can be a stressful time. Dr. Nathan Cooper of the Student Wellness Centre will help participants identify a variety of different holiday stressors, as well as provide techniques on how to combat them, while sharing strategies for stress relief. Finally, there will be practises on mindfulness through progressive muscle relaxation.

3. Homewood Health Presents: Supporting the Caregiver

Many of us are caregivers for our elderly parents. The stress experienced by caregivers can have negative consequences on our physical and psychological well-being. This session will provided participants with support and resources to help them take care of their loved ones and, at the same time, sustain a healthy quality of life.
