If you've been wondering why the fishing report has been delayed lately, I haven't had time to write it. My time has been spent doing important things like putting clients over Smallies like these fine fish below. Smallmouth Bass fishing is a passion of mine. These fish are heavily pressured here this time of year and you have to show them new things all the time. I prefer to pour and paint my own colored jig heads and dress them so they will fool the fish into thinking their real. I change colors frequently and it seems to work.
Truth is, I've been catching them this month on every bait I have with me. Sometimes I change baits when their already biting what I have tied own. What you better believe is color does matter and proper presentation is a must. We still have high water and it's going to be here for a long time. As a pure blood fisherman, I'm thrilled the water is so high. Not only is the fishing the best I've seen in years, but the lake is uncrowded. We have begged the Corps of Engineers for years to hold the water during the spawn so the fry have a chance to survive. Looks like mother nature over powered the Corps and wanted the fish to have a chance this year. Lot's of Bass tournaments have been canceled due to high water simply because most of the corps launching ramps are under water. Anybody that's a die hard fisherman will launch off a cliff if necessary when the bite is on, and the bite is on! Yesterday, I fished with a couple of hard working men out of Forrest City, who between constant cell phone calls were able to concentrate, catch, and release 45 Smallies. Each had put up a sizeable prize for the largest Smallmouth caught. You be the judge! I will be focusing on the other fish in my next report, till then shove it down their throats!
